Frank Ferraro Advocate for Children
I was fortunate to have been the Superintendent of Kearny Schools. In the first year of my appointment, with the help of the Board of Education and the administration, I was able to resume the capital project at Kearny High School; the construction had been stalled for about a year. In the summer of 2013 we held the first administrative retreat and in the fall – on the opening day of school – the first ever Convocation occurred at Kearny High School Stadium. Later that fall members of the Board of Education, the community and district staff participated in a community wide strategic planning process resulting in the draft strategic plan Great Expectations. During that first year, with the help of principals and administrators, we were able to address instructional issues across the district and put in place processes that would better connect the Hispanic Community to the district.
